Hans-Dieter Volk
Prof. (e.m.) Dr. Hans-Dieter Volk is a research group leader at the Institute of Medical Immunology and the BIH Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH). With an MD/PhD background and as a clinical immunologist, he is a leading expert in personalized immunotherapies, cell product characteristics, and biomarker development for monitoring therapy response. He is the co-founder of spin-off companies CheckImmune GmbH, Cellserve GmbH, and TC-Balance GmbH and coordinates several scientific consortia, including EU-funded projects such as RESTORE and PACE.
His professional career began in 1980, and in the following years, he has held significant positions such as Head of the Division of Clinical Immunology at Charité and Head of the Institute of Medical Immunology. Additionally, he was the founding director of the BIH Center for Regenerative Therapies and deputy spokesperson of the Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT) as well as the Einstein Center for Regenerative Therapies (ECRT).
Prof. Dr. Volk has authored over 800 peer-reviewed publications and has more than 50,000 citations. His H-index is 116 and his i10-index is 552.
His awards include the Humboldt Prize, and he holds memberships in renowned scientific societies and editorial boards of international journals. Currently, he is the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of CheckImmune GmbH and TC Balance GmbH and serves on various scientific advisory boards, including those of Bayer and Roche.
